Short Marriages and Divorce. If a couple is seeking a divorce and it is 2 years or less since the date of marriage, a certificate signed by a qualified marriage counsellor must be filed to show that both parties have considered reconciliation. Without the certificate, leave of the Court is required prior to filing the Divorce Application. The length of the marriage can also have a serious impact on how the property is divided and the considerations taken to reach such a decision.

Brendan Manning of Aitken Lawyers recently defended an innocent man on criminal charges of malicious damage to parking meters installed by Mosman Council at Balmoral Beach on New Year's Eve 2009. On Valentine's Day 2011, Aitken Lawyers' client, a local long-term resident and businessman of the Mosman area, was found not guilty on all charges relating to the wilful and malicious damage of 16 parking meters at Balmoral Beach. The client had maintained his innocence from the outset but the Police were convinced they had nabbed the so-called ‘Balmoral Bandit’ at last.

Mosman Council's introduction of paid parking was strongly disputed by local residents, becoming the subject of much local interest and concern.
